mosnaR

Much like my other remixes, this track was born through repetition. I played Son Lux’s “Ransom” so many times throughout 2023 that I began to hear my own rhythms atop it. Its 7/4 nature made it a fun puzzle to make dance music out of, but I'm quite happy with the result. As the description states: “Son Lux made this, I just colored it in.”

Untitled

As my style continues to evolve, my compositions begin from different places. Untitled began with a rhythm. Recently I have found myself attracted to polyrhythms and dotted quarter note syncopation. That particular pattern permeates this piece and influences all of its elements.

Carve Your Name

One of the beautiful things about SoundCloud is its culture of bootlegs. Historically something I’ve avoided, this remix of Spill Tab’s “Creme Brulee” is my first foray into a time honored producer tradition.

Throwaway

Created as a way to pull myself out of a musical slump, this song’s name mirrors its creation. Born of parts stolen from various stalled projects, Throwaway came together in a matter of hours. Rather than try and polish it to perfection, I mastered it and released it that day - imperfections and all. This shift in attitude led me to my current visual aesthetic, which I call a sort of “electronic collage.”

Butterfly Hooks

Inspired by the musical environment in San Francisco, this track combines a faster tempo, aggressive bass sounds, and complex granulated textures. Butterfly Hooks marks a departure from my older sound and a step towards music that I would want to hear live.

Stages

Stages marked a turning point for my musical style; not due to the nature of how it sounds, but by how I made it. The track came together within a day as I threw together various elements I had lying around. This easier, less intentional style has been beneficial for me as it by nature prevents me from obsessing and stalling on any one particular element.

Voyager

Voyager marks the first in a genre I’m calling American Garage, which takes the tempo and rhythms of the UK original and adds in elements from new styles of EDM. With this track I have made strides towards a cleaner production style, leaning away from the more maximalist nature of my earlier work.

Isolation Demos

As the first year of the pandemic neared its end, I wanted to showcase the experiments in style I had conducted over the course of social distancing. My first published mix of music, it is eclectic in scope but focused in its production.

Intro for The Podcast’s Rejects

For this track, I coordinated with the hosts of the podcast to zero in on a style and sound for their opener. I drew from several sources, such as pop songs and other podcasts, eventually landing on something modern and punchy. Extra quotes and samples were added upon request.

Calico

Calico marked an evolution in my musical style, as I embraced messier and more organic sounds. I allowed the track room to breathe with a higher dynamic range than is common to Soundcloud, but still followed in the proud tradition of reimagining popular songs.

Intro for Clark Cooks

This track was made to replace a piece of stock music used in a template. I worked with the producers of the show to make a track that utilized the instruments native to the country of the episode (Japan in this case), and time-synced it with their video intro. I used a wide variety of samples and synths to fuse more traditional Japanese sounds with a TV-ready intro song.
